Somatic Dysfunction in Head and Neck Pain

This webinar was featured as Session 3 of the 2016 ABMP Head & Neck Summit. This one-hour course will focus on reviewing some of the primary anatomical structures of the head and neck. This anatomical review will set the stage for learning specific palpation techniques that isolate bones, bony landmarks, joints, and soft tissues associated with the head and neck. Through this palpatory isolation of the various anatomical structures, the therapist will then assess the physical characteristics of these tissues and identify the greatest point of dysfunction based upon severity of tenderness. Once the primary tender points are located, Passive Positional Release methods will be applied to resolve and restore normal function back into the treated area. The primary goal behind this methodology is to utilize a less invasive approach in treating head and neck pain syndromes, which are often associated with increased and chronic activation of the central nervous system.
